Rafting Hells Kitchen on the Tuolumne River

Tessa Sibbet

Tuolumne and Middle Fork of the Salmon Guide

Tessa and Big Horn SheepTessa is a girly-girl with a tough edge. While attending UCLA (B.A. English Lit), she was both a sorority girl (Delta Gamma) and a guide for the Outdoor Adventure program. She wears skirts while carrying the groover, and although she doesn't mind not showering, she always brings nail polish and mud masks on trips. In an effort to put off the 9 to 5 as long as possible, she learned search engine optimization and now spends the winter months working on the internet, writing blogs, and "playing" on Myspace (her profile is pink) where ECHO River Trips is listed as one of her friends.

River guiding is in her blood (almost). She was introduced to rafting by her step-father and long-time ECHO guide, Danny Bolster, when she was 13, and says that after hearing so many great stories about guiding, she had to give it a try. She AB-ed a Rogue trip for ECHO when she was 18, but decided to guide on the American River for a few years before working multi-day trips for ECHO. Now she spends her springs in California getting her adrenaline fix on the water gushing from the Sierra Nevada and her summers in Idaho, enjoying the serenity and beauty of the Middle Fork canyon. In 2006, she had a great time working with Danny on a Middle Fork trip after his 9-year hiatus. She plans to return in 2007 for her sixth season. "Having a family that understands this lifestyle makes it a lot easier to keep guiding summer after summer. Whenever I get back from a running a tough river or traveling to a foreign country, the first thing my parents always say is, 'We're so proud of you!'"

Tessa brings that same positive energy and a big smile to every trip. She delights in playing camp games, telling jokes, and singing songs, so kids, especially young girls, latch onto her on day one and by day six, she is their favorite guide.
