Bluegrass on the Tuolumne River

Dates: August 18-20, 2009 (3 days/2 nights)
Price: $650/per person

Over the years we have found that there are few combinations that work as well as music and whitewater rafting, so each year we offer a Tuolumne trip with bluegrass musicians Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum.

For 2009, Laurie and Tom are running their annual Tuolumne trip with our friends at ARTA River Trips. Please call ARTA at (800) 323-2782 to reserve your space.

Laurie and Tom typically bring a guitar, mandolin, and a fiddle for their own use, and guests are encouraged to bring their own instruments to play along. ECHO does not have enough waterproof bags for extra instruments, but we can help you find a bag to fit your "river instrument." This trip has a loyal following and typically fills early.

The Tuolumne River

Hell's Kitchen Rapid on the Tuolumne RiverLaurie and Tom truly love the Tuolumne River for its challenging rapids, warm weather, and the side hikes up the Clavey and North Fork Tuolumne Rivers. On the first night of our Tuolumne trip, we enjoy a delightful dinner of salmon and stir fry after hiking up to swim in the pools of the Clavey River. As the sun goes down Laurie and Tom pick up their instruments and play a set of their music.

We wake up the second day to breakfast and if time allows, another chance to hike up the Clavey River. We then spend the day running the mighty rapids of the Tuolumne River including the famous Clavey Falls. On the second night we enjoy ECHO's famous "Fajita Night" followed by the talent show where Laurie and Tom enjoy playing backup to the guests who we find have many amazing talents. Guests typically play their own songs, recite poetry, or impress the audience with physical feats of strength and balance.

This trip - 3 days - contained the excitement and separation from drudgery of at least a week anywhere else. My friends and family think I've lost it....Can't stop relating little amazing details. AND absolute magic flowed from the confluence of the river and the masterful musicians - Tom Rozum and Laurie Lewis.
