Rogue River Guide and Aspiring Babysitter
Geoff
Phillips is both a Sagittarius and a Scorpio (he's on the cusp and will
not claim either) who is renowned for his twinkling blue eyes and gift
for entertaining 7-13 year olds. His favorite color is green, but he proudly
takes a pink "ammo can" on every river trip for his personal
items. Guests love Geoff for his enthusiasm and playfulness on river trips
and his interesting stories from his international adventures. While many
river guides spend their winters traveling or enjoying the snow in the
mountains, most do not venture as far north or south as Geoff, and few
can say they have lived on polar ice caps.
Before he began his career guiding for ECHO, Geoff spent part of the year working as an electrician for Raytheon at McMurdo Station and the South Pole Station in Antarctica. He also spent four months each winter as a station manager in Greenland where he manages a team of scientists doing atmospheric and snow studies and ice core drilling.
He says, "It doesn't feel weird standing on the South Pole, unless you're naked--then it's COLD!" For fun, he and his co-workers attempt to break records in the Polar Bear Club (longest time in freezing water) and the Crazy Penguin Club (standing in their birthday suits at the South Pole). According to his mother, Geoff is a secret agent, a conclusion she has settled on since he works in obscure places all over the world. According to us, he's just a little crazy and a lot of fun.
