Rafting the Rogue River Canyon

Billy Miller

Rogue Guide

"We rafted with Billy and he was wonderful! We had a great trip and the kids are hooked on river rafting."

- J. Murota, Berkeley, CA

Billy Miller, River GuideECHO guides first met Billy Miller while working on the Rio Grande in Terlingua, Texas. Once you meet Billy it is obvious that he is a man of adventure, hard work and bravery. He left his simple Texan life behind to broaden his horizons on the Rogue River in southern Oregon.

He hitchhiked most of the way to Grants Pass and within minutes of arriving in town unannounced he was spotted in by ECHO guides Maggie and Hata. Was it a random coincidence or fate? We think it was fate. Billy fell in love with the Rogue and ECHO fell in love with him. This season was full of highlights for him and he affectionately earned the nickname "Little Tex" because he was the shortest guy on the crew. However, despite all his good times this summer he admits he missed his dogs back in Terlingua.

Guests remember him for his big smile, genuine laugh and his sense of humor. Fellow guides love working with him because of his tireless work ethic (from dawn till midnight), his artistic ability (just in case you need your dry bag drawn on) and his auto mechanic skills (you never know when you're going to need an alternator belt made out duct tape to get you home). Billy is so well liked that he was once given an acre of land as a tip after a river trip. We couldn't be happier to have Billy as part of our team.
