We provide three types of boats on the Rogue. The type you choose depends on how energetic and adventurous you are. Most people try all three.

Paddle Boat

Paddle boats are fourteen to fifteen foot boats that are powered by the paddle strokes of the crew. The guide typically sits in the back and gives paddle commands to four to seven paddlers. The Rogue is a pool and drop style of river trip so guests requesting paddle boats should understand that paddling on the Rogue will require long flatwater paddles. In order to compensate for this we bring stern mount oar frames that assist in these flat sections.

Helmets and wetsuits are rarely required while paddling in paddle boats on the Rogue.

Oar Boat

Oar boats are sixteen to eighteen foot boats that carry gear and supplies as well as one to four passengers. Two or three passengers on an oar boat is typical. A ride on an oar boat is an opportunity to relax, enjoy the scenery, or chat with friends and family.

The oar boat is the least active option and it typically provides the lowest probability of a "swim." It is also a great option for passengers looking for a day of rest in between active days.

Inflatable Kayak ("Ducky")

The duckies are the ultimate vessel for the active river runner. This is an opportunity to run the rapids of the Rogue River under your own power and direction. The guides will give instruction for the duckies before the trip and direction for the rapids while on the water. Paddling duckies is very addictive for independent and active people and we make a big effort to bring the right number of them for each trip. We bring both single and double kayaks.

If you feel that you would like to paddle a ducky for the entire length of the trip, please ask for a “ducky guarantee.” The “ducky guarantees” are limited to one per family and available to those with prior kayak experience and committed to paddling the entire river. Arrangements need to be made in advance by calling the ECHO office and the cost of a guarantee is $70/trip.

Helmets are required at all times while paddling the duckies and at times a wetsuit may be required. We only allow strong passengers to run their duckies down the fish ladder of Rainie Falls. Paddlers in duckies are sometimes required to walk around the class IV Blossom Bar Rapid.
