Middle Fork of the Salmon Guide
In
his six years in Idaho, Scott developed expertise on each of the four
types of boats that ECHO runs; however, whitewater know-how is only
one aspect of an ECHO trip that Scott enhances. He will happily share
stories and information about the natural and cultural history of the
Salmon River area, as well as chef up a mean meal with style. Other guides
notice his strong work ethic and easygoing way.
You may catch a southern twang in Scott’s voice every now and then, as Scott was born and raised in South Carolina. He earned a B.S. in Anthropology at the College of Charleston before making his way westward. During his eight years at the Nantahala Outdoor Center, his focus was kayaking, and he began to guide rafts. He first came to Idaho because of the opportunity to live in a wilderness environment he loves. He has guided and/or boated on various rivers all over the United States, Chile, and Honduras.
Catching up with Scott in the off-season can be tough. He has traveled throughout the United States and in Central and South America. Since 1999, Scott has made studying Thai massage his winter occupation. Recent trips to Thailand have enabled him to deepen his own Thai massage practice and even assist his teacher with beginner-level classes.
