Krista Findley

Middle Fork of the Salmon and Rogue Guide

Krista on the Grand CanyonKrista hails from the midwest and started guiding rafts in Tennessee for the Nantahala Outdoor Center at 18. After seven seasons of rafting on the east coast, she ventured west to explore our longer rivers. She applied to work at ECHO, and we hired her right away after she joined us on an early season Tuolumne trip. After three seasons of the Rogue, she felt drawn to Idaho where she has been working on the Middle Fork of the Salmon.

In many ways, Krista is the quintessential river guide: she's loves sleeping outside and is a self proclaimed 'expert margarita drinker.' She also loves yoga, skiing, running, and kayaking. However, Krista is a guide with a future: she's recently earned her teaching license in Spanish and ESL, which she finished in Mexico last winter.

Now, she's teaching bilingual gifted and talented 3rd graders in Salt Lake City where she is trying to add telemark skiing to her repertoire of outdoor activities. After years as a homeless river guide, she's enjoying the feeling of being in one place. We think that teaching is the perfect career for Krista because it keeps her summers free so that she can continue to guide for us.

Krista has been on all of the rivers that we run and is equally comfortable on all of them in a kayak, paddle boat, or an oar boat. She is remembered on trips for her veggie stir fry, big smile, and confidence on the water. We're working on her nickname (she's never had one) and hoping that 'slick' will stick.
