Ducky Only Trips (new trip)

Dates: August 12, 2007
Price: $1545

This summer ECHO River Trips is offering a unique wilderness adventure: a six day family expedition down Idaho’s pristine Middle Fork of the Salmon River, using only inflatable kayaks. What makes this trip different from ECHO's regular raft trips? Instead of riding as passengers or paddlers in a big raft, each guest will paddle their own kayak for the entire 75 mile stretch through the Frank Church Wilderness, the largest roadless area in the lower 48. With help from our experienced guides, guests will manuever through 75 miles of river in their inflatable kayak.

Inflatable KayakParticipants will meet in Stanley, ID and climb aboard either an Islander or Cessna 206 for the dramatic flight into the remote airstrip at Indian Creek ranger station. For some of us this is the most exhilarating part of the whole trip. But not to fear: we fly with some of the best bush pilots in North America.

Once we land, we’ll inflate our kayaks, load our gear, and head downstream on the crystal clear waters of the Middle Fork. We’ll be traveling light and fast, which means that we’ll have more time to hike, explore, and enjoy the marvels of this premier river canyon.  We’ll hike side canyons, soak in natural hot springs, see pictographs and other archeological evidence of the Tukudaika, the indigenous people of Middle Fork country.

The trip will last 6 days and 5 nights, with the biggest rapids at the end of the trip. The progression of the rapids is perfect for beginner paddlers because by the time we get to the more challenging whitewater we will have gained confidence and experience on the easier rapids upstream.

The minimalist style of this trip puts the adventure back into adventure travel! Negotiating the fun yet safe Class III rapids is an empowering bonding experience for the whole family. And the emphasis on exploration and adventure over luxury in camp is sure to provide lasting memories and tall tales that will be retold for years.
