Three Day Trips on the Rogue in June

(e-News special) In anticipation of high water in early June, we are converting our four day Rogue camping trips on June 6, 7, 13 and 14 to three-day trips, and offering them at $549 per person.

This is a great price, and June is a beautiful time to be on the Rogue River. Learn more about the Rogue

Guide School Featured in Paddler Magazine

Check out a feature article in the March/April issue of Paddler magazine.

Idaho writer Laura Stavoe joined our guide school last spring and as a 40-year-old mother of twins gives a sensitive account of how she fared.  Her story is both funny and poignant, and certainly worth reading.

2006 ECHO Guide School

If  attending a guide school sounds fun to you after reading Laura’s article, we still have space on the school that runs from March 25 through April 1.  The school will involve running the Rogue River in Oregon and the Smith in California.

Instruction will cover camp cooking, river knots, reading water, maneuvering oar and paddle rafts, boat repair and river rescue techniques.  Cost is $795 per person. Learn More about our Guide School

March Guide Profile

Adam Farmer is in his seventh year of guiding and his third year with ECHO.  Adam has a degree in business from UC Davis, which he has put to use managing our Rogue River operation.

He is the guy we wrote about last year, who used the ECHO web site as a dating service.  Stuck in Seattle and between relationships (guides are ALWAYS between relationships) last winter he went on Craigslist to find a date.  When he found someone he liked, she asked him for a photograph. He didn’t have one so he referred her to the guides section of the ECHO web site.  She logged on, checked him out and liked what she saw.

He spent this winter tending bar in Grants Pass and is heading to Texas next week to guide on the Rio Grande in Big Bend National Park.  He will then instruct on our March guide school before returning to manage the Rogue. Learn More about Adam

Contest

Our name-the-camp contest was popular beyond our dreams. The river, by the way, was  the Rogue, and the campsite was Horseshoe Bend. Over 100 people submitted guesses, and many got the correct river. Only three guests –and very few guides--  named the camp. Dan Valens of Corvallis, Oregon was first, and is putting his $500 toward a Middle Fork trip.

This month’s contest: tell us what percent of normal the anticipated run-off  for the Middle Fork is, as of March 10.  The first two winners get their choice of an ECHO T-shirt or an ECHO hat.

The winners will be announced on our blog (the Latest Word) this afternoon.

We look forward to our next river trip together!

Sincerely,

Dick Linford and Joe Daly, Owners
