Well written Tater! I'm glad you're enjoying life up there! I thought I'd check out Echo and I'm not surprised at all to find you're writing during your summer break.

We do miss you on the Poudre though. I swam Garry pretty good the other day and thought of you.

Tate- a GREAT recount of the trip. Thanks. You're a welcome addition to the ECHO family. I was to have been there but for some real life drama would have been. You write well- I look forward to seeing more and maybe meeting you. I don't hink I'm allowed back on the MF anytime soon though.
Stay safe.

I flew into Indian Creek today and hiked up to Lake Creek to see how the rapid looked at the lower flows. I saw two sweep boats, 5 rafts, and 8 driftboats run the rapid perfectly. The water was 2.36 ft.

It was fairly easy for rafts and the sweeps to pull right and miss the tree in the entrance. This seems like it will be the most difficult part of the rapid as the river drops.

The river is much slower below here than last week when the river was higher. Both sweeps went left of the three trees and most rafts went right of them. Both moves are easy. Left of the trees is shallow and nice for the sweep boat since the shallow rocks slow the it down. Neither sweep came even close to getting stuck.

Finally, all of the boats easily went right of the rootballs and trees. It's shallow over there, but fine. There is plenty of water to go left of the rootballs, but there is a good amount of wood past the rootball that could make a left run dangerous.

My impression was that this rapid will continue to be navigable as the river drops towards 2 feet. We are launching our July 3rd trip from Boundary Creek.

It's so hard to say what the flows will be at the end of May because flows depends on spring rains, spring weather, and summer rains as much as snowpack. We can expect there to be plent of water for the Salmon Supreme since this week is usually around the peak of the snowmelt.

It's so hard to guess what the water will be like on June 20th, but it seems like that would be the perfect time to go this year because you can be sure to start at Boundary Creek and have plenty of water even if we have a bad spring.

This will almost definitely be a low water year which means we'll be starting more of our trips from Indian Creek and spend six days on the lower 75 miles. Even in low water years we're able to run fun trips on the Middle Fork through August.

looks like the snowpack is down to 67% of average now. What will that do to the Salmon Supreme trip? What does it look like the Salmon be like when permit season opens on June 20? Will this be a lower water year?

Thx - DBV

[...] We gave a head start to our current e-News subscribers and ECHO customers and so far only one person has won (the second prize) by guessing the camp. He remembers the camp well because he was part of an impromptu wedding that we had there two years ago. [...]
